• Hi, I am Dawn. The owner and master potter at The Ye11ow Studio. It was always a dream to have a little shop on Main Street in Picton.

My pottery is inspired by taking a modern perspective on classic functional forms. The colours are coastaly inspired with lots of natural tones and rich textures.

I was trained at OCADU (Toronto) and Sheridan College (Oakville) and at The University of Waterloo where I received a Masters In Fine Art.

Currently The Ye11ow Studio employs 2 full time staff that work with me in the making, glazing and firing of the pottery and 3 part time staff who assist us and work the shopfront.

Managing the day-to-day and the master glazer is Vanessa Molyneux (below left), she was my very first employee 5 years ago and plans to stay with me forever. Vanessa is a mother of 2 and a lifelong resident of the area, with generations of family members that can trace back to the time of the Loyalists in Prince Edward County. If I am the soul of the business, she is the heart, she remembers every customer we have ever made an order for. Her kindness and attention to detail are the perfect mix for our group.

  • I have had the pleasure of mentoring Erin Roundsky (below right) since she first came to me in 2019 as a 19 year old summer student from the Ceramics program at Sheridan College. After her summer internship with us, Erin finished her degree and traveled. In the spring of 2022 Erin returned to Canada and to the studio as a full time employee. Her warm personality, ambition to improve her skills and her love for making pottery is a perfect match for us. Erin is a young indigenous woman, formerly from Lindsay Ontario, and is Annishinaabe from Wapekeka First Nation, a remote location approximately 450 KM north of the Sioux Lookout Ontario.

    And the BIG question...

Why call the studio The Ye11ow?

Yellow makes me happy! It is a bright sunny colour, full of light and joy. And why the 11? It's my favourite number.

    Pretty simple.... I know :)
